Coming Soon: Big Light & American Babies @ The 8x10, Fri 8/27
To look at Big Light's Fred Torphy on the street you might not see what a natural born rocker he is. But, stick him beneath hot stage lights with an electric guitar and he looks just too right. Surround him with three equally primed-for-launch guys overflowing with talent - Bradley Bifulco (drums), Jeremy Korpas (guitar) and Steve Adams (bass) – and you've got a classic four-piece that off-handedly reminds one what a joyful, enriching thing rock 'n' roll can be. And while their off-the-books tangents work great – they are jam band scholars – it's the bare bones and killer smile inside their songwriting that snags you. It also doesn't hurt that they stoke memories of Wilco, Big Star and Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians. Perhaps more than anything else, one picks up on a hunger in this group often missing from today's too-cool-for-school bands. Big Light positively salivates at the chance to wreck and ride rock for all it's worth. And they ain't half bad at pretty stuff, too. 2010 has been a banner year for this young San Francisco-based band, with regular touring on both coasts, a flurry of new composing and the release of their bang-up debut album, Animals In Bloom. Yet, this all feels like the tip of the iceberg with Big Light, whose potential may well surpass even their wide, eager eyes ability to envision just yet. (Dennis Cook).Read more

moe. to Rock Rams Head Live June 3
From modest beginnings in a Buffalo basement over two decades ago to today’s multifaceted success, the members of moe. have never lost sight of the earnest, elemental goals that they aspired to from their very first show: to deliver honest, heartfelt music and to ensure the audience has a good time. Considerate and conscientious in their actions and decision-making, moe.’s refreshingly unpretentious attitude has won them a devoted legion of dedicated fans (ranging from seasoned concert-goers to eager young newcomers) and has given rise to a thriving cottage industry – a self-contained nation-state in which the band and their audience live as equals, thriving on a reciprocal appreciation rare in today’s increasingly fragmented musical landscape. World Premiere: Widespread Panic "Saint Ex"
Check out the premiere of “Saint Ex,” the first track from the new Widespread Panic release, Dirty Side Down. “I’ll tell you what the mood conveys to me but that doesn’t make it the only interpretation available,” John Bell says of the song. “The tone of the music within the intro is fairly etheric…floating – maybe helping to describe what it’s like to be flying through and above the clouds – peaceful, maybe solitary. The outro is the same piece of music. At this point however, oops – St. Ex is dead. So, now the mood is still hopefully peaceful, lofty, perhaps Heaven-like – without the aid of an aircraft. Other people tell me they just see bunnies.

It just is - and it’s great. Go where this guy is taking you. My man’s aim is true!!!” – John Mayer -“Barnes is a noticeable notch above the typical acoustic guitar-toting singer/songwriter. His genuine, feel-good energy infects the crowd.” – Paste Magazine -“He arcs broadly, from pop-funk to folky finger picking and Steely Dan-tidy pop and love runs throughout, and runs deep.” – The Tennessean -“Barnes excels at a funky take on light rock that recalls John Mayer and Dave Matthews. The natural optimism of his material stands out amongst the inexhaustible collection of artists who delight in being jaded.” – Dallas Observer

American Aquarium: Small Town Hymns CD
Hailing from Raleigh, NC, American Aquarium’s southern musical perspective is a blend of honest songwriting, an unwavering work ethic, and a genuine love of rock & roll. Whether you call it alt-country, Americana, or roots rock, one thing is for certain: Their music is a fresh voice that borrows from many forms of the American songbook. With 5 years, 5 albums, and over 600 shows under their belts, American Aquarium is the continuance of the road warrior meets studio craftsman ethic that has long been a part of the rock & roll and country music cultures. They are a band and crew that spend their lives between a van with no air-conditioning and stages all across the country. Their collaboration forms a wholly new and polished version of what Americana might start to look like in the years to come. American Aquarium joins Sons Of Bill at The 8x10 on Thursday, May 13th.

American Aquarium And Sons Of Bill "Life In Shambles" Spring Tour
As complicated as life in 2010 may have become, it's some comfort to know there are still simple guys out there playing simple music. Simple guys that can go out any night of the week and put together a rock and roll show we can all believe in. It was as simple as James Wilson (Sons of Bill) making contact with BJ Barham (American Aquarium) at the end of 2009 to propose a tour for their bands that would help further bond a growing community of music fans around their roots/Americana/alt-country songwriting and performances. The hope is that this will not just be another lineup at the bar, but rather a chance to celebrate a new school of bands that are tending the vibrant traditions of rock and country music and the sense of community they can foster, especially in hard times. As a tongue-in-cheek testament to the times, the boys in the bands thought it appropriate to call this tour "Life in Shambles." The New Deal: A New Era
This Toronto-based live-tronica trio has been at the forefront of all things jam since their inception almost 12 years and 750 shows ago. Following an impromptu jam session that was later released as their first record, This Is Live, the band knew they were on to something fresh and rapidly spiraled away from Toronto's acid-jazz scene. Now they are ten albums deep. The newest, Live: Toronto 7.16.2009, is available for digital download now with hard copies hitting the street next month. Tempted by the novelty of a "Live from Tokyo" record, the band originally thought they'd release one of the shows from their successful Japanese tour earlier that summer. However, this recording ended up being the stand out.

Available May 11 from Royal Potato Family Back with his third full length studio album in as many years, Brooklyn-based pianist and sound sculptor MARCO BENEVENTO delivers BETWEEN NEEDLES & NIGHTFALL on May 11 via his label Royal Potato Family. BETWEEN NEEDLES & NIGHTFALL was initially conceived at Trout Recording in Brooklyn, NY where engineer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Akron/Family) tracked Marco Benevento and his trio, including bassist Reed Mathis and drummer Andrew Barr, over three days. The material was drawn from fragments of melodies and song ideas that Benevento had been collecting over the last year. To achieve the colors he envisioned for these compositions, Benevento recorded on a baby grand piano bolstered by guitar pick-ups, amplifiers and a myriad of pedals and circuit bent toys, while overdubbing Moog, Optigan, Mellotron and Farfisa. He then transferred the tracks to his home studio, taking the next two months to cut, loop and shape the pieces into full-fledged songs. Additional drum parts were added by Matt Chamberlain. As a last step, Benevento handed off his work to three of his favorite engineers: Mell Dettmer (Sunn O))), Eyvind Kang), Jesse Lauter (Low Anthem, Elvis Perkins) and Vid Cousins (Amon Tobin, Kid Koala) for final mixes. The results range from the day-glo electro-pop of "It Came From You" to the simply-stated lullaby "Katie's Song" to the shimmering Arcade Fire-meets-Brad Mehldau anthem "Two Of You." 2009 was a breakout year for Marco Benevento. In February, he released Me Not Me, an album featuring interpretations of songs by My Morning Jacket, Leonard Cohen and Deerhoof among others. Touring it across the U.S., Benevento and his trio made a number of high profile performances, including San Francisco Jazz Festival, Earshot Festival and Carnegie Hall. At the end of '09, Benevento released his first ever DVD, Live In NYC: The Sullivan Hall Residency, a two hour-plus documentary with performances and interviews from his historical five week 2008 engagement at the downtown New York City venue Sullivan Hall, featuring special guests like Brad Barr, Kaki King, Billy Martin, Stanton Moore and Steven Bernstein. As if all this wasn't enough, he toured and recorded with post jazz cognoscenti Garage A Trois, became a full time member of indie pop experimentalists Surprise Me Mr. Davis and welcomed his second daughter into the world. With the release of BETWEEN NEEDLES & NIGHTFALL, Marco Benevento continues to define himself as one of the most prolific new voices of his era, blurring genres from song to song, and more often from measure to measure, with his own take on simple pop pleasures, dance party rave-ups and art jazz experimentation. He speaks in modern sonic tongues, all cut-and-pasted, tweaked-out and glitchy, but full of wide-eyed wonder that rejoices in the limitless horizons of sound and melody.

A New Chapter for U-Melt
A band is a living organism: changing, adapting, and growing. As one ebbs another flows and we use every experience as a reminder of where we have been and a forecast of where we are going. It is with much sadness that U-Melt announces the departure of guitarist, Rob Salzer. Rob helped create U-Melt out of a440 in 2003 and has enjoyed all of U-Melt’s adventures over the last 6 years. Together, they had the pleasure of creating both unique music and a passionate fan base in cities around the country. Rob has decided he needs to attend to both his medical needs (not too serious, don’t worry!) and new personal endeavors. See U-Melt begin their next chapter at The 8x10 on Thursday, February 25th.

Charlie Hunter Always Pays
Charlie Hunter lays down the funkiest riffs this side of Paisley Park, but attempting to describe the improvisational guitarist’s music only leads to frustration. By Hunter’s own admission, you have to listen to his recordings and see him perform live to understand his music. He’s a real musician – no fancy trappings, no laser beams or multi-story towers for him. Just a guitar, a good backing band and an audience willing to take chances are all that he needs to entertain.

Colin Hay's "American Sunshine"
"Although I’m not technically an American citizen, I’ve been living here for twenty years,” reflects Colin Hay from his home in California. “I like it here. You look up at the sky, and there’s no evidence of anything. It’s amazing to think that, under that sky, there is so much horror going on here…but it’s so beautiful at the same time.” Hay’s new album American Sunshine, available from Compass Records today, is marked by several sideways glances at the American dream – that perilous balance between potential and reality – along with knowing ruminations on the transformative effects of love and the passing of time, set to some of the purest pop, hardest rock, and most emotionally bare acoustic balladry Hay has yet laid down. Curiously, the America of American Sunshine is profoundly shaped by two very different dream factories on nearly opposite ends of the country: California and Nashville."

Will Hoge Debuts MP3 on JamBase / Album Due 09/29
Will Hoge returns September 29 with an album as real as the personal nightmare that nearly ended his career. While returning from the studio during the recording sessions for his Rykodisc release The Wreckage, Hoge's scooter was struck by another vehicle, leaving him near death. The power of The Wreckage is not in the fear, frustration or other emotions that such an experience might draw out of a songwriter, but rather, acceptance, and a rediscovery of the simple joy of making good music. "It's hard to explain, but I felt a certain serenity making this album," Hoge says. "The process became easier. I believe the songs flow with more confidence."

Assembly Of Dust: Required Listening
Musically, AoD has drawn comparisons to The Beatles and The Band, which no doubt is due in great part to the songwriting duo of Genauer and former keyboardist and current co-producer Nate Wilson's shared understanding of songcraft and appreciation for the history of American roots music. Many of the songs had been marinating for years, explains Genauer, most having been written by himself, some with the help of Wilson. The bulk of the material was about three years old, but a 16-year-old Genauer wrote the oldest 20 years ago. "It was written when I still dreamed of being in a band. It was THE first song I wrote that moved out of the first position on a guitar neck." As far as the song selections on Some Assembly Required go, each track is a perfect snapshot from lives intertwined, varying from the frustratingly mundane to unabashedly proud to achingly devastating, all clever ruminations paired with well arranged, sparsely orchestrated, home-baked, hooky tunes.

Emmitt and Nershi: Taking A Step Back
Their style is uniquely their own, and although they've only been together a year, the Emmitt-Nershi Band already commands a considerable repertoire that includes a well-balanced mix of traditional bluegrass, old Salmon and String Cheese tunes, as well as new material, some of which is so freshly written that the songs have yet to be named. The band, with their vocal harmonies and tight musicianship, is without a doubt much closer to a straightforward bluegrass act, but it's not entirely pure. They are a bluegrass band with a touch of folk and Americana and a rock & roll edge. It's what I like to call "mountaingrass" – a very distinct style of bluegrass, the heart and soul of which seems to lie in the great mountains of Colorado, born on the front porches of the pickers who call those peaks and valleys home. This is a special breed of musician

Guitarist Luther Dickinson emerged first, sitting in on a first set-closing “Can't You Hear Me Knocking.” His brother Cody Dickinson took the stage partway throughout Umphrey’s second set, playing washboard on both the improv-jam “Jimmy Stewart” and the new “Cemetery Walk II.” As Dickinson left the stage, bassist Chris Chew appeared with drummer Nikki Glaspie for a run through “Der Bluten Kat.” Luther Dickinson then helped Umphrey’s McGee close the night with “Pay the Snucka.” Glaspie has performed with such diverse names as Beyonce, Eric Krasno, Me'Shell Ndgeocello, State Radio and Sam Kinninger. Umphrey’s McGee will appear at Providence, RI’s Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel tomorrow.

Just Announced: Chart Topping Reggae Artist Collie Buddz@ 930 Club
Walther Productions is excited to announce Collie Buddz at the 9:30 Club on August 19th. Below is a brief bio and click on the link to view a Collie video. Born in New Orleans, raised on the isle of Bermuda with intermittent stays in urban Toronto, Colin Harper is not an easy youth to pin down geographically. His musical alter ego Collie Buddz however, is one of the most firmly grounded voices you may ever encounter. Incorporating influences from hip-hop to soca, Collie’s music nevertheless has a rock-solid foundation in reggae - and its power to connect ghetto reality with the highest heights of human aspiration - that is a rarity even in Jamaica.

Toubab Krewe:Living Between Two Worlds
To America, the band brings a worldly sound deeply rooted in the music of Mali. To Africa, the band brings an understanding of southern rock. The band Toubab Krewe is a five-piece out of Asheville, N.C., that juxtaposes African and American influences into a sound distinctly its own. Playing African-inspired rock songs may not seem like the most obvious musical direction, but percussionist Luke Quaranta, who will be performing with the rest of the band at Ram's Head Tavern in Annapolis on Sunday, says it makes perfect sense. "It's been a real kind of organic and natural progression over the years," Quaranta says. "Justin [Perkins, electric guitar, kora and more] and Drew [Heller, electric guitar and soku] grew up in Asheville playing together for years. Our drummer, Teal Brown, also did. They played kind of [an] interesting kind of quirky instrumental music - really gypsy-jazz styles and such." The true origins of Toubab Krewe stretch back to Quaranta's college years, when he met Perkins, Heller and Brown. Quaranta brought the "African piece" into the mix, he says. He first took a trip to Guinea after his sophomore year at the 800-plus-student Warren Wilson College in Asheville. Quaranta encourages students to take advantage of college travel, as it's one of the best learning experiences a young person can have, he says. While at Warren Wilson, Quaranta co-founded Common Ground, a West African-inspired percussion and dance ensemble, with Brown (Perkins and Heller joined Common Ground in 2000). In 2001, Common Ground went on a group trip to Guinea and the Ivory Coast. It was during this trip when Perkins and Heller fully realized their love for African music. "It led to those guys discovering their own thing and studying," Quaranta says. The Common Ground trip was also where Perkins first began playing the kora, a 21-stringed instrument that is an African combination of the harp, the guitar and the lute. The kora is played similarly to the harp, but its traditional style resembles flamenco guitar. The instrument dominates much of Toubab's songs, including "Djarabi" off the band's self-titled debut, with its both subtle and jarring sound. After college, Quaranta, Perkins, Heller and Brown went their separate ways, more or less, but still kept in touch as friends, Quaranta says. It wasn't until Perkins and Heller took a trip to Mali in 2004 that the idea of Toubab Krewe was fully realized. "The galvanizing moment for us to come together was when Drew and Justin took a four-month trip in 2004 to Mali, to Bamako," Quaranta says. "Mali is kind of the source for all African music. When they came back - even when they were there - there were rumblings of the group coming together. They called our bassist [David Pransky], then they called me. They were inspired - we were inspired to take what we've learned and put it into a rock setup." Next, the band needed a name. What do you call five Americans who play West African-inspired music? "Toubab means non-African, or foreign in Bambara (a Malian language)," Quaranta says. "We're essentially calling ourselves the non-African crew. For us, music is living between worlds. It's based enough in African music that [native Africans] understand. On the other hand [in America], it's foreign to people because it's a lot of west-African melodies and different things, but we're also playing with enough backbeat that it makes sense." As percussionist, Quaranta plays several instruments from Africa, which - along with Perkin's kora - complement the band's traditional drum-bass-electric guitar setup. "My thing is mostly djembe, which is centered in kind of Mali, Guinea and the Ivory Coast," he says. "It's a goat-skinned, mortar-shaped drum." Quaranta also plays the krin, a "two-toned drum from Guinea;" the scrapper, which is "basically a metal rod and scraper;" and the calabash, "a big gourd cut in half." In the winter, Toubab Krewe took its first trip to Mali as a band to perform, and Quaranta says the people of Mali couldn't have embraced the band's music in a more positive way. "It was incredible," he says. "It was even better than us going over there to study. [The people of Mali] can see all our influences but also see how we're being creative within it." As for the future, Quaranta says the band is in the process of recording its second album and hopes to work in some guest vocalists to its current instrumental-only repertoire. "We have talked about collaborations and look forward to opportunities to mix in vocals," he says. "We hope we can get the attention of artists who want to work with us. For now, it's a challenge, but that's part of our inspiration - [to] make instrumental music acceptable and inspiring." Toubab Krewe performs at Ram's Head Tavern in Annapolis on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are $13.50. The band plays The State Theatre in Falls Church, Va., on April 12 with doors at 7 p.m. Tickets for that show are $10, and you must be older than 18 to attend.

Basshound 8x10 Review
'Basshound' boasts very unique sound Laura Pleines Arts | 2/18/07 The 8x10 Club in Federal Hill was graced by the local sounds of headliner Basshound on Friday, along with another local band, Solarium. 8x10 features an atmosphere where everyone feels like family, mainly because of its small capacity, which was packed with fans who wanted to hear the Baltimore natives. Immediately as the set began, the crowd became engaged with the music. Basshound is an eclectic group with various sounds and genres of music incorporated into their songs. The band consists of five members playing guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. Although there is a main vocalist, the entire band contributes vocals to their sound. When the band began to play their first song, they sounded like soft jazz, but during the rest of the songs other genres of music were incorporated. The band could be categorized as jazz, funk, electric, rock, rhythm, reggae or even bluegrass. They are able to attract many different types of people due to their versatile soundings. Even fans of punk rock may enjoy some of the music of members Nathan Graham, Greg Maly, Blake Mobley, Bradley Richmond, and Colin Woods who consistently involved the crowd in their show. It is questionable where the band derives its name while listening to its music. Without knowing any better, one could assume that they heavily include bass in their music but the bass is just one of many components that keep their songs alive. Basshound can't be compared to a better-known band or even any band. They have their own style and seem to include all the different genres of music they enjoy listening to. Some songs sounded like jazz mixed with the heavy presence of keyboards and a high-pitched guitar. Even the lyrics sound like those of a smooth jazz artist. "Don't Question" features the sound of bluegrass music. They are just not one type of music but rather a melting pot of sounds that can be found throughout our culture. Basshound is a good band for any music fan because they combine popular sounds of American culture with multiple music genres. Listen to Basshound on http://www.myspace.com/basshound/.

The Bridge Lights Up the 8x10
Local band lights up 8 X 10 Alex Plimack With the staunch smell of cigarette smoke permeating the air, accompanied by the lingering odor of alcohol from the bars up and downstairs, The Bridge took the stage at the 8x10 Club on Friday. In the first show of a two-night stand the crowd was eagerly anticipating the band's return to Baltimore. In stark contrast to the mercury flirting with single digits outside, the warm reception of the hometown band didn't go unnoticed as the guys of The Bridge took the stage, grinning ear-to-ear as they launched into the opening jam, "Jan Jan." Now, before tackling the nearly three hour-long concert, it is of utmost necessity to clarify the sound of the Bridge. However, such classification proves to be a daunting task, to say the least, as their sound is nearly indescribable. How would you classify a band with rock, blues, bluegrass, soul, and funk that includes a saxophone player and a mandolin player who beat boxes too? "Damn good" would be your best bet. The show, which featured extended jams (one lasting nearly twenty minutes), was a tour de force of fine songwriting and even better musical talent. Lead singer and guitarist Cris Jacobs used his ideally impeccable raw voice along with his furious guitar playing to virtuoso-like achievement on songs like "Bad Locomotive" and "Shake 'em Down." Mandolin player Kenny Liner's vocal percussion skills were a lesson in the inhuman; the sheer multitude of sounds he unleashed in the opening to "Pakalolo" were, to say the least, insane. Patrick Rainey on the sax brought the jazz sound to the night, trading licks with Liner and sit-in keyboardist Mookie Segal. Drummer Mike Gambone exuded confidence, as during "Ballad of Clear Rock" he was smoking a cigarette while still keeping the beat. Bassist Markowitz was the perfect backup to Jacobs' vocals, harmonizing perfectly on songs like "Angelina" and keeping the funky bass flow going throughout. There was a party-like atmosphere throughout the night and the intimate setting of 8x10 bred crowd interaction. At several points, members of the crowd (mostly thirty-something singles with the occasional college kid and out-of-place baby boomer thrown into the mix) were seen talking to band members and making song requests, all while dancing along to the music. Without a doubt, they have discovered one of the best up-and-coming bands on the East Coast. If the Dave Matthews-esque prescribed account of getting famous is of any certainty, then count on seeing The Bridge making it big. Baltimore would be selfish to want to keep an amazing band like The Bridge all to itself. Concerts don't get much more enjoyable than this.

Lotus Review at the Recher Theatre 1/27/07
Lotus & The Frequency :: 01.27.07 :: Recher Theatre :: Towson, MD There's a reason the intimate Recher Theatre didn't provide chairs for this performance - nobody needed them. Lotus, the Philly electronic-jam crossover sensation, and the evening's opener, The Frequency, an up-and-coming L.A. power boogaloo band, made a combined sound that could well represent the future of jam genre exploration. Both bands exceeded expectations for a packed house that left it all on the dance floor. The crowd was still filling in when The Frequency, fresh off the Baltimore Beltway from Southern California, hit the stage. The five-man group, recently signed to Ropeadope Digital, consists of Marc Cazorla (organ, Fender Rhodes, Moog, drums, vocals), Alex Stiff (guitar, bass, harmonica, vocals), Mike Faiola (drums), Hector aka "El Presidente" (bass), and Sean Coolican (percussion, electronics). Their sound is something akin to Herbie Hancock, The Beta Band, and Charlie Hunter sharing a stage with a drum machine and laptop. Throughout the eight-song set, the ensemble started each piece in a very unassuming manner. Within a minute or two the members would build off each other, allowing the sublime beats and organ to seamlessly thrust things into overdrive. Following their opening selection, "Svarls Barkley," the band quickly managed to get the crowd moving with future fan favorite "Jim Gordon." The tune uses a raunchy beat overlaid with The Frequency's unison monotone vocals. Close to fifteen minutes later, the group ended in a fury of Coolican's tambourines, Hector's thumping bass, and Cazorla's Moog organ, which, at times, duplicated Marco Benevento's grinding groove. Following a mellow "Fade," they dropped into "Zero," a mysterious song that could easily go in many directions but stayed on tracks towards enjoyable monotony. The Frequency then served up a two-song closing dish of "Jersey City" and "UK Jam (I'm Alive)." Unlike many opening bands, The Frequency proved to be a sling shot of crowd energy for the headliner. Lotus is Luke Miller (bass, sampler), Jesse Miller (guitar, keys), Chuck Morris (electronic/acoustic percussion), Mike Rempel (guitar), and Steve Clemens (drums). Lotus began more than seven years ago as a "straight-up jamband" but has evolved into a leader of the trance-jam movement that embraces electronica, house, beats and synths. Whimsical and airy on first listen, they are an energetic, tour de force upon further reflection. Their third and most recent release, Strength of Weak Ties, is making inroads with fans of crossover jam. This EP provided several note-bending concoctions that worked the crowd into a dance party. "Blue Giant" began slowly and prepared the dancers for a 15-minute "Marisol" that followed. Amidst all the beautiful space jams it often appeared that guitarist Mike Rempel wasn't fully utilizing his abilities to push the songs over the top. Rempel produces a very melodic, sweet sound that helps tie Lotus' use of drum-machine, pre-cut studio sounds, and beats off an I-Mac with the live roots-rock elements, but at times meanders a bit too much as opposed to digging in and providing the big payoff. The second set began with a carefree offering called "Nematode" before a very upbeat "At Last Glance" gave way to what the Lotus faithful call an "Uber segue," where the band goes in and out of the "Intro to a Cell" > "Shimmer and Out" segue multiple times. The lighting was beyond stellar all night, and really worked the crowd into a frenzy during this schizophrenic offering. The final songs of the night were "Ball of Energy" and "Wax," where Clemens's drums and Morris's acoustic percussion made this combo a clear highlight of the show. Lotus and The Frequency is a combination not to be missed. If you're a livetronica fan than you'll find the next level here. If you're an old Dead or Phish fan you may very well find a missing link that propels you into a lifetime of new music exploration.

A Full House for John Popper
"The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic is currently touring behind its self-titled debut. On Saturday the quartet performed at Baltimore, MD’s 8x10 and invited out a rather odd special guest. During the JPP’s single set, comedian Dave Coulier, who is best known for playing Uncle Joey on ABC's Full House, added harmonica to a version of “Fire In Her Kiss” from the group's recent release. Coulier, who was recently featured on Skating with Celebrities, plays the harp and guitar has gigged out a big recently. Yesterday, the John Popper Project also shot its first video, for the song “Lapdance,” appropriately enough at New York’s HeadQuarters Gentlemen's Club. " -Jambands.com

Jam in the Dam 2007 just announced!
JAM IN THE 'DAM 2007 Line-Up Announcement & On Sale Information 25 years ago, in October of 1981, the Grateful Dead played at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, home of Jam in the 'Dam, for the first and only time. It’s an event that venue owner Cor Schlosser remembers with fondness to this day. Cor still owns the venue, and is as much an Amsterdam musical fixture as his legendary venue, which has hosted a who’s who of rock n’ roll aristocracy over the past thirty years or so. So, to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of that special occasion, we got Dark Star Orchestra to climb aboard our ‘festival express’, along with simpatico brethren Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, and Galactic . JitD 2007 promises to be a sing-along, dance-along, party-along event that maybe this venue hasn’t seen since those rare days in 1981. Ask anyone who has attended either of the first two installments of this one-of-a-kind festival, and you’ll likely get a crooked smile, a glow of fond remembrance, and hear the words ‘dude’, ‘man’, or ‘sweet’. We think this festival draws some of the nicest, most adventurous music fans there are, from both this country and all over Europe.
